Professor Michael (Micha) Rubinovitch 1938-2024

We are saddened to announce the passing of Professor Michael (Micha) Rubinovitch.

Professor Rubinovitch was born in 1938. In 1964, he completed his Bachelor’s degree with honors at our faculty.
In 1970, a year after completing his doctoral studies at Cornell University, he returned to the Technion and joined the faculty’s academic staff. In 1980, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty for a two-year term, making him the first graduate of the faculty to become a faculty member and dean.

Between 1992-2000 and 2001 until his retirement in 2005, Micha was the Technion’s Vice President for Administration and Finance – CEO.

Micha Rubinovitch’s research focused on Applied Probability, Operations Research, and Probabilistic Models in Chemical Engineering and Economics.

Micha played a crucial role in shaping the faculty, leading its development. He continued to support the faculty even after retirement, offering his wisdom and expertise generously. We will deeply miss him.

As VP for Administration and Finance, Micha was largely responsible for ensuring Technion’s long-term financial security, implementing policies that allowed Technion to weather the financial cutbacks of the 90’s that so badly affected higher education in general.
