About

The faculty’s prestigious honors program is designed for outstanding students in the three degree subjects offered at the faculty: Industrial Engineering and Management, Data Science and Engineering and Information Systems Engineering. During the five-year program the students will complete a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in three years and a master’s degree (M.Sc.) (with a thesis) in two years.

The Program's Goal

The main goal of the program is to expose outstanding students to relevant research in the early stages of their undergraduate studies and create a social environment for excellent students. The students will be exposed to the work being done at the forefront of research in the faculty and will acquire research skills. All students in the program will be closely accompanied by a faculty member throughout their studies.

Admission to the program

At the beginning of the first year of studies, the faculty will reach out to students with the aim of locating suitable candidates. The program is suitable for a limited number of particularly outstanding students interested in research. Admission will be based on academic achievements (in high school, the Technion or elsewhere), a CV and a personal interview.

Key Points

  • Close support by a faculty member throughout the entire course of study.
  • Much access to faculty members, laboratories and research already during undergraduate studies.
  • Priority and flexibility in registering for courses, subject to the approval of the course lecturer and the program coordinator.
  • Graduates of a bachelor’s degree within the program are guaranteed automatic admission to master’s studies at the faculty (subject to final approval by the graduate school).
  • An increased scholarship for duration of the master’s degree.
  • Enrichment lectures and social activity throughout the program.
  • Exposure as honors students on the faculty website, in the program diploma and with an honor pin.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least two ‘Research Project’ courses, supervised by a faculty member, at a graduate-level standard. The research project aims to equip students with research skills and knowledge of cutting-edge research in their field.
  • Participation in a peer mentoring program or teaching assistantship is required.
  • A cumulative GPA of 90 or higher is mandatory throughout the undergraduate degree.

Graduation

The program concludes upon completion of a master’s degree. However, upon completion of their bachelor’s degree, students will receive a letter from the dean of the faculty certifying their participation in the faculty’s excellence program, provided the following conditions are met:

  • The student has successfully completed at least two “Research Project” courses during their undergraduate studies.
  • The student has completed their bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 90 or above and begins their master’s studies in the 7th semester.
  • The student is still enrolled in the program upon graduation.
  • The student has met all program requirements.
  • For the record, a student who drops out of the program may continue their studies in the degree for which they are registered.

[1] The “Research Project” course is a semester-long course worth 3 credits. The course is open only to students in the excellence program and can be taken in lieu of annual projects (pre-project and project), laboratory courses (data collection lab and data management lab), or elective faculty courses.
