Learning analytics that facilitate meaningful learning experiences

יום ראשון 02.11 10:30 - 11:30

Abstract: The focus of education is shifting from outcomes to processes. How do learners make sense of new challenges, and how can such sense-making be identified and supported? In this talk, I will demonstrate how the use of learning analytics and digital trace analysis, coupled with innovative design and strong theoretical foundations, allows us to better understand, assess, and support meaningful learning in complex scenarios. Examples for these powerful experiences include learning from failure, creative thinking, and scientific reasoning. Bio: Ido Roll is a Professor in the Faculty of Education in Science and Technology and the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. His research focuses on the use of learning analytics and learning design to study and support complex processes such as self-regulated learning, AI literacy, and creative problem solving. His work is grounded in the fields of education, cognitive science, data science, and human-computer interaction. He previously chaired the international conferences on Artificial Intelligence in Education (2020) and on Learning at Scale (2016), and he served as the Deputy Senior Vice President for the Promotion of Teaching and Learning at the Technion. He also served and chaired multiple committees in the OECD PISA groups. His review of evolution and revolution in AI in Education is the most cited paper of the last decade in the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education.
