Outstanding International Achievement for Faculty Student at MaxSAT Evaluation 2026
Yam Slonimsky, a Master’s student at the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences, achieved impressive results at the prestigious MaxSAT Evaluation 2026 (Anytime Tracks) competition. The software he developed as part of his thesis, Aperture, won 1st place globally in 4 out of 6 categories, and secured 2nd and 3rd places in the remaining two categories. The research was supervised by Prof. Ofer Strichman, alongside research fellow Dr. Alexander Nadel.
The competition featured 14 leading research groups from around the globe. The Anytime MaxSAT problem focuses on finding a satisfying assignment that minimizes the objective function over a propositional formula within a given timeframe. As an NP-complete problem, the core challenge lies in satisfying all hard constraints while reaching an assignment as close to the optimal solution as possible within the allocated time.
