Influence of the present bias in making purchase decisions

Sun 13.07 13:00 - 13:30

Abstract: This study explores how present bias affects smartphone purchasing decisions and examines whether behavioral nudges, particularly visual ones, can mitigate its impact and promote sustainable consumption. In a between-subjects experiment, participants will choose between an eco-friendly and a non-eco-friendly phone. Each group will be exposed to different visual cues — such as images of a green future or environmental destruction — while a control group will see no cues. The study includes twelve experimental groups based on six types of nudges. Participants complete a questionnaire and provide socio-demographic data to help analyze patterns in decision-making. Data collection is currently being finalized, and analysis will be presented during the seminar.
