Reut Apel, Refael Tikochinski have received the VATAT scholarship for Outstanding women doctoral students in hi-tech and the VATAT scholarship for doctoral students from the HAREDI community (ultra-Orthodox). Roee Shraga has received the VATAT postdoctoral scholarship for outstanding PhDs in the field of Data Science.
Reut is a PhD student under the joint supervision of Prof. Roi Reichert, Prof. Moshe Tennenholz, and Prof. Ido Erev.
Reut’s research addresses the interaction between natural language processing, game theory, and decision making, in which she explores the use of natural language messages to predict players’ actions in persuasion games.
Persuasion games are widely researched in economic modeling and artificial intelligence and serve as a solid foundation for powerful applications, such as recommendation systems and social networks. However, there is no use of natural language messages in the classic persuasion games setting, although natural language is a very common communication signal in real-world persuasion setups.
In her research, Reut explores the impact of verbal communication on social interactions in persuasion games and the use of language in predicting human actions in persuasion setups.
The VATAT scholarship for Outstanding women doctoral students in hi-tech’s goal is to encourage outstanding women students in High Technology fields to pursue doctoral studies at Israeli research universities and to expand in the long term the number of female members in hi-tech.
Refael Tikochinski is a PhD candidate in the faculty of industrial engineering and management under the supervision of Prof. Roi Reichart from Industrial Engineering and Management, Technion and Prof. Uri Hasson from Princeton University, Department of Psychology, Princeton Neuroscience Institute)
Rephael’s research examines the relationships between computational models of natural language processing (NLP) and the way language is processed by humans and represented in the brain.
Rephael has received the VATAT scholarship for doctoral students from the HAREDI community.
Roee Shraga has received his PH. D in the faculty under the supervision of Prof. Avigdor Gal and Prof. Rakefet Ackerman.
Roee’s research revolves around the roles of humans and AI in Data Integration. One of the main research questions Roee deals with is how to achieve effective human-in-the-loop data integration using machine learning. For example, in a recent paper, published in ICDE, Shraga et al. present a novel characterization of “human experts” and provide a novel framework to identify reliable and valuable human experts for data integration (https://arxiv.org/pdf/2012.01229).
Roee Shraga has received the Israel Planning and Budgeting Committee (VATAT) postdoctoral scholarship for outstanding PhDs in the field of Data Science.
The overarching goal of the scholarship is to support exceptional postdoctoral fellows in core and broader areas of the Data Science research as means to increase the number of researchers and faculty members in the field in Israel.
The committee has chosen three applicants from a list of candidates from the eligible institutions in Israel, based on academic excellence and potential.
Roee will be a postdoctoral research fellow in Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts.
