Prof. Carmel Domshlak’s paper, “From One to Many: Planning for Loosely Coupled Multi-Agent Systems” co-authored with Prof. Ronen Brafman, won the ICAPS Influential Paper award for 2019.
The paper presents the first general and formal formulation for multi-agent (classical) planning (MAP) which corresponds to the task of multiple agents working cooperatively to achieve a common goal. Besides providing a clean and crisp model for MAP, the paper also contributes with novel complexity techniques and results, together with general algorithms for solving MAP problems. Brafman and Domshlak’s paper proved to be a fundational stone in the area of MAP, an area that is currently very active and relevant.
